Lessons in Laughter.
Torry Martin is an award-winning screenwriter, comedian, actor and author who is best known for creating the delightful recurring character of Wooton Bassett for Focus on the Family’s acclaimed audio series “Adventures in Odyssey”. In addition to penning humor columns for a variety of national print and online publications including Clubhouse Magazine, On Course Magazine, Enrichment Journal, Cloud Ten Pictures, and Clash Entertainment, Torry is the author of several comedy sketchbooks published by Lillenas Drama.
An accomplished actor, Torry starred in the national touring company of Columbia Artist’s musical comedy, “Around the World in Eighty Days”. He has appeared on The Learning Channel and the Fine Living Network; won top honors as both writer and actor in the Nashville 48 Hour Film Project; and has twice been named Grand Prize Winner for both Acting and Writing by the Gospel Music Association. His most recent acting roles were in the Taylor Swift parody of “The Office” and the feature films “Adrift” and “The Greater Sins of Lucas Blackstone”. Martin begins filming roles in the faith based movies “My Name is Paul” and “Skid” in early 2013. A storyteller at heart, Martin has graced the stages of hundreds of secular and sacred venues across the country, sharing a brand of comedy described by author Paul McCusker as, “Garrison Keillor with a spiritual perspective.”
Torry Martin has been profiled in a host of national and regional print and online publications including Today’s Christian, Light and Life, At Home Tennessee and Christian-Movie.com. Martin is an in-demand speaker, performer and instructor at writing and filmmaking conferences across the U.S.
“I like using comedy in my writing because we need to be able to make fun of ourselves,” Martin says. “We take ourselves too seriously, but we don’t take God seriously enough and that needs some fixing.” Martin says he hopes his material will help his audience focus more on their relationships with God and place less emphasis on the technicalities of differing denominations or outside appearances. His blend of hilarious personal experiences, human observations and spiritual applications have made him one of the most entertaining and comical speakers around. From churches to corporate functions, banquets to biker rallies, or prisons to praise gatherings, the appeal of Torry Martin’s material makes him a perfect choice for groups and gatherings of all kinds.
